Robert Ivy Receives The Lifetime Achievement Award

On the 11th of April 2018, Robert Ivy who is the CEO and EVP of the American Institute of Architects was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by Noel Polk. The vital award was given to him by the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters.

It was a fantastic achievement because it was the first time the award an architect has received the prestigious award. Robert Ivy’s name has now been added to the list of successful Mississippians who have made the state proud with their achievements. Nancy LaForge, the president of MIAL, said that when it comes to making architecture accessible to the public in Mississippi, there is no better person for the job than Robert Ivy.

Before Robert Ivy joined AIA in 2011, he was the Editor-in-Chief of McGraw-Hill’s Architectural Record. During the period when Ivy was the leader of Architectural Record, it was able to scoop many awards, among them the National Magazine Award. Robert Ivy was in charge when McGraw designed and constructed media in China; where he set up the Mandarin version of Architectural Record.

Ivy was able to acquire his Bachelor of Arts in English from Sewanee. Later on, he went to Tulane University and received a Master of Architecture degree. Before he began practicing architecture professionally, he worked as an officer in the U.S. Navy.

MIAL also honored Robert on June 2, 2018, with the Lifetime Achievement Award. Ever since Ivy began working for AIA in 2011, the global presence and general influence of the organization. At the moment, the company is at the highest membership level since it was set up 160 years ago.

AIA President Carl Elefante believes that Robert as the CEO of AIA, author, editor, and architect is the ideal ambassador for his company. Everyone who knows about the achievements of Robert can attest that he has undoubtedly made Mississippi proud with the many awards and recognition that he has gotten for himself, and for AIA.
