Whenever there is a need in the community after a disaster like Hurricane Harvey, many people in the community look to government agencies to step up and help them during that time. While government agencies are necessary and play a vital and significant role in relief efforts as well as rebuilding, there can also be a great resource already within the community.
Hurricane Harvey hit Texas and left a trail of destruction in its path which destroyed homes and businesses. The storm caused monumental flooding within the streets. The flooding also interfered with disaster relief efforts with food items and essentials that families needed. There were several companies that went into action to facilitate those needs- Nabors Industries was among them.
Tony Petrello, CEO of Nabors Industries always seeks opportunities where he can effectively use his leadership skills. And when his 1,200 employees were putting together a relief and recovery project for the victims of Hurricane Harvey, he stepped right up to help them achieve their mission.
The employees saw a need and quickly went into action-mode to help in the relief efforts. The employees of Nabor’s Industries are accustomed to helping out in the community. Nabor Industries has worked with the Susan B Komen Foundation and Bike MS. Many of the employees were victims of the hurricane themselves but still took time off from work to meet their community’s needs. Once Tony Petrello discovered that this was going on, he immediately approved for their time to be paid by the company.
In addition, the employees began collecting small donations for recovery efforts. Tony responded by initiating the Nabors Disasters Relief Fund and agreed to match dollar for dollar donations which resulted in a $173,622 being collected. Nabor’s Industries also provided access to its on-site kitchen for organizers of the relief efforts to use in order to cook hot meals for families.
Tony is not a stranger to philanthropy efforts. He has been the contributor to many organizations within the Houston, Texas community for decades. He is the founder of the Petrello Family Foundation. Most business leaders and charitable organizations are familiar with the giving of Tony Petrello. With a $7 million donation from Tony Petrello, the Texas Children’s Hospital was able to complete the Dan and Jan Research Institute for development of treatments for many neurological diseases like Alzheimer’s. Tony also serves on the board of trustees.
